It is coming home … to Silverstone

Formula 1 in Silverstone: A home race for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport

Only 7 days before the lights go out in Silverstone Valtteri Bottas was victorious in the Austrian Grand Prix following a perfect start. |The back-to-back race weekend marks a challenge for the DB Schenker logistics pros, but one they deliver on time. The race cars made it in time to Silverstone, the Motorhome is coming home: Brackley, 70 miles northwest of London, has been the home of the modern “Silberpfeil” race cars, the Silver Arrows, since the Mercedes-Benz factory team returned there for the 2010 Formula 1 season. Central England is the Silicon Valley of motor sports and the home of many other teams as well.

The race cars of the future are made here

It’s a challenging season for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, but a fight they are relishing against strong opposition. The successes can be traced back to the meticulous work processes taking place on the some 645,000 sq ft of factory site in Brackley. The facility offers top-modern design and production equipment for creating the next generation of Formula 1 race cars.

On-site: High-tech facilities comprising a wind tunnel, top-modern test benches and the driving simulator as well as the production facilities in order to continue developing the car during the entire season. During the restructuring of the aerodynamics department in 2012, the wind tunnel was modernised. Since then, 60 per cent models may be used, delivering more information and better feedback to the engineers.

The star is the tea

800 employees, 24 hours, 7 days a week are mustered for the design, the development and the production processes. Designing a Formula 1 car alone takes more than 250,000 hours of working time. For producing it, the employees need more than 200,000 hours
