Ever wondered how Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport overcomes the logistical challenge of a back-to-back race weekend? Follow the race against time.

Routine, yes – relaxation, no

The result of the cooperation between DB Schenker and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport is positive.
The teams are well-rehearsed, and the processes get optimised even further. DB Schenker’s engagement goes far beyond classical logistics. Many value added services are embraced, for in addition to setting up and dismantling the motorhome, the logistics provider also looks after electricity and water installation, and takes on security tasks. Wherever help is needed, we’ll lend a hand!

“The cooperation with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport is running so smoothly because we tackle all tasks with the same precision, passion and routine,” says Sören Hell, DB Schenker Project Head. “The teams know each other and have been working together trusting each other. We are looking forward to the challenges the new season will have in store.”

DB Schenker’s core team comprises some 30 people per race. In case of back-to-back races, working and transporting takes place in shifts; then an additional 50 drivers will boost the total team to about 100.

What to expect from the new season

Next season, the cooperation between DB Schenker and Mercedes-AMG Petronas will continue. In 2018, two familiar race courses will return to the Formula 1 calendar: Le Castellet, France and Hockenheim, Germany. Thus, two more races will be added to the European racing calendar.
Even now, DB Schenker has started planning and fine-tuning the necessary changes to the logistics processes. After all, the tight timeframe next year means practically all back-to-back races. This calls for new plans and considerations which will keep the logistics experts busy during the winter months.

The team’s motorhome will be stored again during winter. It will be reworked and retrofitted with new features where required. This happens in close coordination between Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport and DB Schenker.

After an exhausting final back-to-back weekend between Spa and Monza, we were at last allowed to party. DB Schenker is keeping our fingers crossed for the team in the remaining seven races of this Formula 1 season; looking forward to next year’s challenges.
