Logistically, Güstrow is something of a hidden champion. With around 29,000 inhabitants, the Güstrow center is only of regional importance. But when it comes to transport and logistics services, it extends its feelers far and wide. This is thanks to its strategically favorable location and its very good transport connections.
Located in the heart of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, Güstrow is still close enough to the large port of Hamburg to offer very good conditions for the processing and distribution of overseas freight. A key factor is the good connection via the A19 and A20 motorways. The proximity to Rostock-Laage Airport offers additional options. And it is also only 40 kilometers to the economically well-developed industrial location of Rostock.
DB Schenker is expanding its contract logistics offering in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
No wonder that DB Schenker has been active in transport and logistics services at this attractive location for many years. And with an upward trend. In December 2019, the contract logistics offering was expanded to include a refurbished and technically high-quality logistics property in Güstrow, thereby significantly increasing regional storage capacities. The new location offers a total of 21,000 sqm of total storage space for sophisticated contract logistics. The focus of the industry is currently on food and consumer goods.
Gunnar Scholtz, Head of DB Schenker’s Güstrow office: “Thanks to growing business with our existing clients and the acquisition of new contracts, we have decided to establish an additional, central warehouse. In Güstrow, we have found a property that fully meets all requirements—especially of our clients in the food and beverage industry. The new facility has allowed us to increase our total storage space by a whopping 50 percent.“
In fact, it is a property that is very well known in the region. The new location is the former Coop central warehouse on Glasewitzer Chaussee, from which the sky markets in the region were supplied until 2017.
Technically up to date and suitable for food logistics
The 21.000 m² storage space offers 23.000 shelving units and 3.000 m² of block storage space. There is also a 4.500 m² external storage area and 1.000 m² office space. The warehouse is suitable for dry and frost-free storage. The new facility meets all the requirements of the IFS Logistics standard for the storage of foodstuffs. That fits the region, in which the agricultural and food industries are traditionally strongly represented.

The modernization of the property was used to convert to energy-efficient LED lighting in the hall. A modern warehouse management system with interfaces to the transport management systems from DB Schenker ensures transparent and fast order processing along the entire supply chain.
New jobs for the region
The acquisition of new storage capacity at the Güstrow site goes hand in hand with the creation of new jobs, above all for warehouse logistics specialists. Michael Köppen, Head of Logistics at the Güstrow office, comments: “With continuously growing space utilization and the planned addition of further spaces in the new hall, we will have to expand our new logistics team in Güstrow yet further.”
With the new spatial and human resources in the Güstrow logistics center, DB Schenker is aimed primarily at local companies, particularly from the packaging and food industries. In addition to storage (including customs warehouses), picking and distribution, value-added services such as labeling, handling, packaging, repackaging and packaging as well as display construction are offered.
The city’s politically responsible people welcomed the new opening of DB Schenker with great pleasure. We can look forward to further developments at the Güstrow logistics location.
