Given the current corona pandemic, it is extremely important for scientists, doctors and politicians to know how widespread the COVID-19 virus is. Specially developed virus tests are an important element to find out. DB Schenker has now designed logistic solutions for the Korean manufacturer SD Biosensor to bring hundreds of thousands of test kits for the identification of antibodies by air freight to customers all over the world.

“We are happy to make a contribution here by ensuring that diagnostic kits are transported quickly worldwide.”
SD Biosensor is one of the largest healthcare companies in Korea and has developed rapid tests. These tests allow professionals to determine whether a person has developed antibodies to the coronavirus in as little as 15 minutes. These antibodies in the blood are an indication that the person has been infected with the COVID-19 virus.
Medical companies and laboratories require large amounts of such tests. They are particularly necessary in countries where the number of infected people is particularly high. They help to determine the different stages of a viral infection more precisely and to reduce the number of unreported cases. This way, politicians and scientists can take more effective measures against the virus.
Greater predictability for politicians
“More corona tests can increase the accuracy of infection numbers and can thus help to improve the predictability for politics, society and the economy,” says Thorsten Meincke, Board Member for Air and Sea Freight at DB Schenker. “We are happy to make a contribution here by ensuring that diagnostic kits are transported quickly worldwide.”
However, the situation in air freight is currently difficult because the freight capacities on passenger flights have been reduced. This posed major challenges for SD Biosensor to bring the much-needed test kits to customers. DB Schenker has now developed alternative air freight solutions at short notice. Now, SD Biosensor can deliver medical goods from the production sites near the Korean capital Seoul to numerous regions worldwide. This also includes Central European countries.
Support for the pharmaceutical industry
“Can we make additional capacity available? Our answer is yes – thanks to our experienced and committed team,” says Dirk Lukat, CEO of Schenker Korea. “We are proud to be able to demonstrate our strengths in the Korean market and beyond.”

DB Schenker supports several leading pharmaceutical developers and producers in the transport of COVID-19 test kits. Thanks to the partnership with the sports car manufacturer Porsche, the logistics company was able to transport medical equipment from China to Germany with dozens of full-charter flights including numerous test kits for medical facilities.
