During the corona crisis in particular, Danone supported their longtime partner “Die Tafeln”, among various further measures. As Danone Waters’ transportation partner in Germany, TRANSA Spedition, which belongs to DB Schenker, supported the distribution of over 650 pallets of Volvic beverages to 18 food banks all over Germany. The project involved elaborate disposition tasks. However, all donated bottles of mineral water reached their recipients safe and sound.
As a specialist for full loads on the road and on the tracks as well as for multimodal transportation chains, DB Schenker TRANSA organizes transports all over Germany and Europe. Consumer goods, including food items, are one of TRANSA’s industrial focal points. The company fulfills the high requirements regarding delivery quality and adherence to delivery dates in this area with its broad network of places of business and based on many years of experience, efficient resources as well as the certification to food safety standards according to HACCP and IFS Logistics.
Donation transportation within Germany
In mid-March, restrictions and curfews caused by corona did not only hit restaurants and businesses with full force. Many aid organizations were also confronted with massive problems in maintaining their social services.
This includes the German food banks that called for solidarity and support in a joint appeal. This is where Danone Waters became active as part of its great corona initiative by donating half a million Volvic beverages to food banks all over Germany. 18 food banks in total were to be supplied. From Neubrandenburg in the northeast to the southern Langenau close to Ulm, in fact.
The only thing missing was the fitting solution for transportation. For this matter, Danone Waters approached their seasoned transportation partner, DB Schenker TRANSA. Quickly and unbureaucratically, a mutual solution was found: TRANSA supported the aid program by completing transports at better conditions. It was 22 truck consignments in total that supplied the 18 food banks. The total volume amounted to a proud 654 pallets.
500,000 Volvic beverages – free bank delivery
Full Loads of natural mineral water – nothing special for TRANSA. Yes and no, as the food banks as points of reception also present entirely different challenges after all. Florian Krumm, head of the TRANSA branch in Mannheim, on this topic: “In contrast to professional stores and markets, the food banks had very different prerequisites for the reception of goods at their disposal. Some locations had forklifts, others neither had those nor hydraulic lifts for discharging the pallets. The colleagues in the disposition department talked to every single food bank and found individual solutions. I am glad that our team and our transports could contribute to a good cause.”
By now, half a million Volvic beverages have reached their destination safe and sound. The operators and users of the food banks are glad, because corona has indeed complicated the labor conditions of the food banks immensely, which makes it a good thing when commercial enterprises like Danone and DB Schenker cooperate quickly and unbureaucratically.
